  I used to think boredom was the enemy, a sign that I wasn’t doing enough or that something was wrong with my day. But one afternoon changed everything. Memories Under the Udara Tree

  Growing up in my grandmother’s compound in Uyo was always an adventure. The aroma of jollof rice and peppered fish would greet me each morning, and the Udara tree we planted eight years ago had grown into a giant, shading the entire yard. Its broad leaves rustled gently in the wind, a comforting soundtrack to our daily routines. On most mornings, I would step outside to the sound of children laughing across the compound, their footsteps bouncing on the red earth. Our neighbors’ goats bleated in the distance, and the occasional honk of a keke maruwa weaving through the narrow streets reminded me that Uyo was alive, even before the sun had fully risen.
